65,000 Years: A Short History of Australian Art book is now available for purchase online. Edited by Distinguished Professor Marcia Langton AO and Judith Ryan AM, the book is a scholarly work (published with Thames and Hudson) offering new insights into the first art of this country. Featuring writing by twenty-five leading thinkers across generations and disciplines, the publication celebrates Indigenous Australian art across time, media and language groups.
This book is published in association with a major exhibition of the same title which will open to the public 30 May 2025 at the University of Melbourne’s Potter Museum of Art. The exhibition will feature over 400 artworks that celebrate the longevity and brilliance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art despite a difficult history of colonialism and scientific racism.
Further details about the program will be announced in early 2025.
