Star Type

Kelly Gellatly talks to us about Richard Larter’s 1979 tapestry, Star Type.

As Kelly explains, Larter’s work asks the viewer to question the values of self and of society, more broadly, asking: “What upsets us? What do we value? Why are we, for example, concerned about a naked woman when there is so much atrocity in the world?”. More than 40 years after the work was created, we are still questioning these themes as a society – which gives the work a contemporary currency.
