Janango Butcher Cherel, Mick Jawalji and Rammey Ramsey – three artists featured in this exhibition – employ different formal and conceptual techniques to explore tensions between storytelling, representation and picture-making. The concept of Country and its depiction within particular cultural frameworks guides ideas, stories and forms relating to place.

Cherel's fields of varied mark-making, Jawalji's striking geometry and Ramsey's free-floating pictographic representations are dynamic individual variations of the artmaking in the region where they belong, encompassing the East and south Kimberley and the Gija and Gooninyandi language groups in Western Australia.

Curated by Quentin Sprague.
