Julie Rrap: Remaking the World

When

This exhibition has now ended.

Location

The Potter Museum of Art, Cnr of Swanston St and Masson Rd, Parkville

Julie Rrap’s involvement with body art and performance in the mid-1970s continued to influence her practice as it expanded into photography, painting, sculpture and video in an ongoing project concerned with representations of the self and the body. Remaking the World, presented as part of the Vizard Foundation Contemporary Artist Project series, continues Rrap’s exploration of these aspects of representation while also investigating the creative process and the stereotype of the artist as creative genius.

Remaking the World presents a number new works, including a video installation with images of thirty sleeping artists, suspended from the ceiling like hanging bats. When brought together with key pieces from Rrap’s expansive oeuvre, these new works reveal the artist’s pinball-like creative practice and the centrality of the process to her thinking, and making, over the last decade.

Curated by Dr Vincent Alessi.
